RIWAYA is deeply rooted in my journey as a Sudanese-American girl who grew up in California. My upbringing in an Islamic school immersed me in a vibrant and diverse community of friends and peers from the African, Middle Eastern, and South Asian diaspora. We often shared stories, art, and dreams of a world where our voices and experiences could truly fit in—a world that celebrated us for who we are.
Moving to New York City opened my eyes to an even broader spectrum of creativity and inspired my desire to create a collaborative effort that contributes to the art world. I had the privilege of meeting so many talented creatives from the diaspora, each with unique perspectives and artistic expressions. This fueled my passion for bringing us all together—a shared platform where we could uplift one another, showcase our talents, and amplify the richness of our cultures.
Through RIWAYA, I hope to weave together stories and art that reflect our individuality and our shared connection—building a space where we can celebrate our identities with pride, authenticity, and confidence.
